Markley Ennen
May 15, 1931 - January 4, 2016

Markley Victor Ennen was born on May 15, 1931, to John J. and Katie (Dohlman) Ennen in Kossuth County, Iowa, and departed from this world on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center (KRHC), Algona, Iowa, after a full life of 84 years 7 months and 20 days.

At the age of four, he moved together with his parents, two brothers, and one sister to the Ennen family farm. He graduated from Buffalo Center School with the class of 1948. On July 1, 1951, he married Jeanette Steffensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children, Debra, Pauline, Diane, Randy, and Ronny.

A farmer, he spent his life raising hogs, Hy-Line chicks, cattle, and sheep as well as growing crops. In addition, an active member of the Farmer’s Night School during his early years, he served on the board of directors for the Timely Mission Nursing Home, the Farmers’ Cooperative Elevator, and the United Methodist Church as well as on the Extension Council and as a Buffalo Township Trustee. An active member of the United Methodist Church, he transferred his membership in 1952 from the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center.

He enjoyed a lifetime of farming, traveling with his wife, delivering motorhomes, fishing, and spending time with friends and neighbors as well as attending family reunions.

Those left to cherish his memory include Jeanette, his wife of sixty-four and a half years; his children, Deb (Bruce) Venteicher, Diane (Gene) Wempen, Dr. Randy (Josline) Ennen, and Ronny (Debra) Ennen; his grandchildren: Chris (Tara) Blomster; Jennifer (Pete) Burns; Benjamin (Angela), Jeremiah, and Thaddeus (Stephanie) Ennen; Brett (Rachel) and Scott (Gina) Venteicher; Tiera Wagnon-Ennen; Mara (Michael) Walstead; and Chad (Jennifer) and Derek (Stacy) Wempen; his great grandchildren: Sean Blomster; Katie Ennen; Caleb, Gabby, Gwendalyn, Jenna, Lainey, Roscoe, and Simon Venteicher; Jessa Walstead; and Andrew, Ethan, Jerzie, Reegen, Tayla, and Tyler Wempen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and an infant daughter, Pauline.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
