December 13, 1926 - June 6, 2015

Eugene “Gene” A. Johnson, 88, of Forest City, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2015, in Tacoma, Washington.

Eugene “Gene” Arthur Johnson, a son of Arthur and Esther (Lueck) Johnson, was born on December 13, 1926, in Waseca, Minnesota. As a teenager, he came to the Forest City area to live with his grandfather, John Johnson, his Uncle Marion, his Aunt Thelma Johnson, and their children, Judy, Jane, Joan, Janice, and Jill.

In 1949, Gene joined the Army. Twenty-two days after finishing his tour, he signed up with the Air Force. In 1977, he retired from the Air Force. During his military career, he enjoyed traveling throughout the world. In 1978, he began a second career with Boeing in Tacoma, Washington. He retired from Boeing in 1995. Married to Mary Ann Williams, he fathered two sons, Douglas and Michael. After returning to Forest City in 1995, he married Betty Baker Hutson.

Gene is survived by his children, Douglas (Cindy) and Michael ( Helen) Johnson, all of Tacoma, Washington, Sandra Hugelen, of Forest City, and Lois Hutson, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his siblings, Noreen Hannaman, of Mankato, Minnesota, Gerald (Margaret) Johnson, also of Mankato, Minnesota, and Beverly Schoenfeldt, of Iowa Falls.

He is preceded in death by his wives, Mary Ann and Betty; his parents, Arthur and Esther Johnson; his sister, Deloris Raatz; and his brothers-in-law, DeWayne Hannaman and Vern Schoenfeldt.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel in Forest City with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Inurnment of cremains will take place in Oakland Cemetery.
