JESSE D. MONSEN, 91, of Rake, Iowa, died on Thursday, August 13, 2013, at the Country View Care Center in Sibley, Iowa.

Jesse Dale Monsen, a son of Martin and Pluma (Larsen) Monsen, was born on September 10, 1923, in rural Rake, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Rake High School. Then, he traveled to both coasts. On the west coast, he worked as a miner and the east as a bricklayer. He, then, returned home to help and later run the family farm until the mid-1980s.

An avid hunter, Jesse, also, enjoyed flying his homemade airplanes.

Jesse is survived by his brother, Carroll, of Estherville, Iowa; his nieces, Karen (Jerry) Phillips and Tammy (Mark) Ebel, also of Estherville, Iowa, Mary Jane (Marv) Postma, of Sibley, Iowa, and Juanita Hanson, of Denver, Colorado; and his nephews, DeWayne and Louellen (Eliana) Hanson, of Denver, Colorado.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Bonnie Hanson and Nadine Monsen; and his nephew, Ronald Monsen.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2015, at West Cemetery, Rake, Iowa, with Pastor Terry Mahnke officiating.
