June 21, 1922 - February 22, 2015

Richard Dean “Bud” Gambell, 92, of Forest City, died on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Bud Gambell, a son of Chester and Anna (Kelley) Gambell, was born on June 21, 1922, in Hancock County, Iowa. He attended school through the 8th grade. Then, he and his sister, Maxine, started picking potatoes for Elmer Hass. Dean picked thirty bushels a day until he had saved enough money to purchase a fiddle, which he still owned today, from Sears Roebuck and Company for $9.00. On it. he loved to play the Wabash Cannonball more than any other tune.

Dean married Arlene Klipping on April 15, 1953. To their union, three children were born, Arthur, David, and Linda. Dean farmed the family farm until he retired in 1985. He, then, worked for Richard Clark and also at Hardee’s. He enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren, and he, especially, enjoyed playing his fiddle with his son, David, playing guitar.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his grandchildren, Ryan and Randi Gambell, and their children, Masen, Ian, and Jessica and Jon Cahoon, and their daughter, Jayden Springer; Michael and April Gambell, and their daughter Faith; Nathan and Cassy Gambell, and their children, Nicholas, Chase, Jacob, and Matthew; Michael and Diane Lund; and Gary and Jeff Lund; his daughters-in-law, Judy, Cindy, and Laura; and a special niece, Bernice Haugen; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Arthur, David, and Linda; and his siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 27, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., with Pastor Chuck Layton of the United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to the Concord Care Center in Garner or to the Dean Gambell memorial fund in care of the family.
