April 13, 1920 - January 29, 2015

Charlotte S. Nelson, 94, of Forest City, died on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Pleasantville, Iowa.

Charlotte Synoma Nelson, a daughter of Carl and Sarah (Tweeten) Gustafson, was born on April 13, 1920, in Mt. Valley Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. She attended Mt. Valley country school and graduated from Forest City High School in 1938. Then, she married Wendell (Jack) Nelson. For many years, they farmed in Mt. Valley Township. For twenty-three years, she served as parish secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church, retiring in 1987.

Active in many neighborhood clubs, church circle, ladies aide, Charlotte enjoyed her active role at church. A caring person with a big heart, she would, without hesitation, help anyone in need. Moreover, she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Gary, of Saginaw, Michigan, Sheryl (John) Bultena, of Broomfield, Colorado, Ruth Ann (Jan) Haugen, of Pleasantville, Iowa, and Martha (Randy) Hatteberg, of Kernersville, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Jodie Fransen, Ann McNamara, Ginny Krichau, Merea Bentrott, Christopher Haugen, Rachel Walt, and Anthony Hatteberg; her sisters-in-law, Elaine Gustafson and Margie Shuck; and thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Gustaf, James (in infancy), James, Cleo, Clemmit, and Victor; two sisters, Margaret and Ruth; and a special friend, Jane Cramton (Gary).

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Monday, February 2, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. A private family interment will take place in Oakland Cemetery. The family requests memorials that be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in her name.
