Willard Dearing
May 26, 1919 - January 31, 2015

Blessed to have his family with him during the four days he spent at the hospital, Willard Dearing, 95, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Willard was born in Gibson City, Illinois, on May 26, 1919, to Burt and Lilly (Arnold) Dearing. He grew up helping his parents on the family farm, an experience which fostered his passion for farming. He attended country school in Rake, Iowa. On February 21, 1942, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Miller. Together, they raised three children on their farm between Rake and Buffalo Center.

Willard loved to farm and lived a life of good morals, firm values, and a strong work ethic. Although he and Dorothy moved to Buffalo Center in 1976, he continued to enjoy farming until he was 90 years old. After he retired, he still drove out to the farm to check on the operations. Willard loved his family. He enjoyed many family gatherings and attended the last one just days before his passing.

Willard was a longtime sexton at Graceland Cemetery and member of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center.

Willard is preceded in death by his daughter, Jolene Johnson; his parents; his brother, Marvin; his sisters, Evelyn, Genevieve, Vivian, and Varina, who died in infancy.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his son, Ron (Ginger) Dearing, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his daughter, Joyce Dearing-Ehrich, of Columbus, Nebraska; his son-in-law, Robert (Jolene) Johnson, of Northfield, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Keven (Coney) Dearing, Kristen (Dale) Askeland, Stacey (Chad) White, Rebecca (Greg) Brown, Paul (Jill) Lally, and Scott (Kim) and Chad (Katie) Johnson; thirteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; his sisters, Elaine Allison, of Bradenton, Florida, and Ethel (Todd) Kiewiet, of Buffalo Center, Iowa

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winter Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.
