Gorden A. Anderson, Sr.
(March 6, 1932 - May 6, 2014)

Gorden A. Anderson, Sr., age 82, of rural Scarville, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

A son of Gilmer and Nettie (Hylland) Anderson, Gorden Andrew was born on March 6, 1932, on the family Century Farm in Winnebago County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, he remained a life time member. He attended country school and graduated from Lake Mills High School.

On May 31, 1953, Gorden married Sharon Kay Geddes at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A lifetime resident of Winnebago County, Gorden farmed, worked as an Auctioneer, and served at one time or another as a Winnebago County Supervisor, a member of the Lake Mills Community School Board, a member of the Lake Mills Ambulance Squad, a member of the ASCS County and Township Committee, a member and Vice-President of the Aid Association for Lutherans, Branch #3324, and a member of the Manufactures Bank and Trust Advisory Board. One of the original members of the North Iowa Snow Jammers Club, he also worked part-time as a bus driver for the Lake Mills School District and the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He, especially, enjoyed serving on the North Iowa Vocational Center (NIVC) board and the North Iowa Council of Governments (NICOG) board where he made many friends.

Gorden moved into the Good Samaritan Society-Forest City in April of 2013 and loved his time there.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty-one years, Kay Anderson; his daughters, Julie (Kent) Swenson and Annette (Brian) Larson; his sons, Gorden, Jr., (Denise) and Geoffrey (Jodie) Anderson; his son-in-law, Bruce Steele; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his special nephew, Mark (Sandy) Haugen; and his sisters, Arlene (Bernard) Flugum and Dorothy (Roger) Hill; along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Diane, and one sister, Gloria.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, and again at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Center Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills, Iowa.

Gorden’s family suggests that memorials be made to the Good Samaritan Society-Forest City, 606 S 7th Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436.
