Dale and Betty Schmidthuber
(February 2, 1929 - December 1, 2013)
(January 19, 1928 - December 26, 2011)

Betty Y. Schmidthuber, age 83, of Lake Mills, died on Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa, from cancer.

Dale R. Schmidthuber, age 84, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, December 01, 2013, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Betty Yvonne (Lukecart) Schmidthuber was born on January 19, 1928, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Cecil and Leone (Fisher) Lukecart. Growing up, she attended schools in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Dale Rollo Schmidthuber was born on February 2, 1929, in Worth County, Iowa, to Michael and Ragnhild “Lolla” (Helland) Schmidthuber. Growing up, he attended schools in Emmons, Minnesota, and Lake Mills, Iowa.

On July 17, 1954, they married in Mason City, Iowa. On March 10, 1956, they moved to Lake Mills during a blizzard.

Betty worked at Deluxe Manufacturing in Lake Mills for many years before she fulfilled her dream to become a hairstylist. On March 11, 1976, she graduated from Capri Cosmetology College in Mason City, Iowa. Upon graduating and receiving her license from the State of Iowa, she opened Betty’s Hair Styling on Main Street in Lake Mills. Betty operated her salon until she retired, and then, she was able to enjoy her passion for golf with Dale and their many friends.

After Dale graduated from Emmons High School, he purchased a filling station on Main Street in Emmons. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea during the Korean War.

After he returned from war, Dale went to work for the Interstate Power Company where he remained until he retired after thirty-eight years. Then, he could enjoy his true passion, playing golf at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club.

Dale and Betty are survived by their daughter, Karen Christensen, of New Mexico, and their son, Lee Schmidthuber, of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Jodi Christensen of Texas, Joshua Christensen of New Mexico, Amy Schmidthuber, Taylor Schmidthuber, and Sam Schmidthuber, all of Pennsylvania; three great granddaughters, Jordyn Yates, of Texas, and Celia and Gabriela Christensen of New Mexico; a brother, Leo Schmidthuber, of Lake Mills; a sister, Doris Stamatelos, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Lukecart, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

They are preceded in death by their parents; a son, Craig Schmidthuber; their brothers, Russell and Horace Schmidthuber and Kenneth, Marshall, and Robert Lukecart; and their sisters, Gladys and Irene Lande, Viola Gavle, and Dorothy Lukecart McFarland; as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Their family would like to thank and pay special tribute to Nancy and Richard Oltman. Nancy was always referred to as Dale and Betty’s guardian angel.

A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Kermit Singelstad officiating and military rites performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235.

Their family will host a buffet gathering where the public is also invited from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Friday afternoon, at the Rice Lake Country Club in rural Lake Mills, Iowa.
