Bertrin "Bert" Lewis Hauge
(February 20, 1919 - October 14, 2013)U.S. Veteran Bertrin Lewis Hauge, 94, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Born on February 20, 1919, in rural Leland, Iowa, to Carl and Bertina (Haugland) Hauge, Bertrin “Bert” attended country school. In 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army. He served in the Aleutian Islands and Europe during World War II before his honorable discharge in 1945.
On March 27, 1942, Bert married Marcella R. Larson at the Winnebago Lutheran Church. They farmed and raised horses in addition to growing a large vegetable garden each year.
An active member of Winnebago Lutheran Church, Bert enjoyed singing in the choir and sharing fellowship through the couples club.
Survivors include his two children, Jean (Steven) Klunder, of Allison, Iowa, and David (Roxanne) Hauge, of Grimes, Iowa; three grandsons, Andrew (Annie) Hauge, Matthew Hauge, and Casey (fiancée Kayla Humpal) Klunder; a sister, Irene Eide, of Leland, Iowa; and a brother, Arnold (Helen) Hauge, of Fertile, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella; two brothers, Abel and Byron; and two sisters, Julia and Bea.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and then again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery with military rites conducted by Leland VFW Post #6161.
The family request memorials be given to Winnebago County Food Bank and the Winnebago Lutheran Church.
