Myrtle E. Hagen, 91, of Scarville, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 03, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A daughter of Thomas and Hilda (Knudtson) Hagen, Myrtle was born on January 1, 1922, on the family farm in Winnebago County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, she attended school at Lake Mills, but later graduated from Scarville High School.

Myrtle lived on the farm with her brother, Elvin, her entire life. Occasionally, she would help out in area homes celebrating the birth of a new baby. On the farm, she did chores with the chickens, gardened, and kept the dairy equipment clean. She liked to bake, especially bread, and entertain relatives with Sunday dinners.

She greatly valued her church. She liked participating in Bible studies and serving meals at church events for as long as she was able.

She also enjoyed the activities at the nursing home. She attended chapel services and Bible study classes, and she participated in rhythm band, balloon volleyball, and baby and pet days.

Everyone who knew Myrtle will remember her for her gentle, quiet manner and her sweet smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Marjorie; and her brothers, Kenneth and Elvin.

She is survived by many of her cousins' families along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 7, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Scarville, Iowa.
