Harry Charlie Gilbert
November 24, 1928 - October 8, 2013Harry Charlie Gilbert, 84, of Mason City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Harry Charlie Gilbert, son of Harry and Jennie (Rippentrop) Gilbert was born on November 24, 1928, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1946. Drafted into the United States Army in 1950, he spent eleven months in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he entered into the diesel engine business.
On June 6, 1953, he married Nancy Whiteis, and to this union, two daughters were born, Valerie and Vicki. Harry worked for GM companies in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, California, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from which he retired.
After many years, Harry and Nancy moved back to Iowa and spent sixteen winters in Fountain Hills, Arizona, where he enjoyed his time on the golf course. He also loved hunting, fishing, and most importantly his family.
Harry will be missed by his wife of sixty years, Nancy, of Mason City; his daughters, Valerie (Michael) Hopkins, of Racine, Wisconsin, and Vicki (Fred) Suckow, of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Danielle Hopkins, of Racine, Wisconsin, Kelly Suckow, of Dallas Texas, and Kevin Suckow, of Nashville Tennessee; his brothers, Robert (Arlene) and David (Pat) Gilbert, of Mason City, and Russell (Virginia) Gilbert, of Brook Park, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Dolling, Arlene Cronk, and Lilly Gilbert; and his brother, Donald Gilbert.
Per Harry's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Harry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City, with Chaplin Janet Dorenkamp officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:30am to 11:00 am at the funeral home on Sunday. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013, at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Health Center or Hospice of North Iowa.
