Edith Fisher
(March 28, 1922 - October 8, 2013)

Edith Fisher, age 91 of Buffalo Center, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka.

Edith G. Fisher was born in Guckeen, Minnesota, on March 28, 1922, to Erik John and Gurina (Ovstebo) Dahl, both Norwegian immigrants. She grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa and attended school in Ottosen, Iowa. She married Russell Fisher. One daughter, Phyllis Marie, was, subsequently, born to this union. The family resided in the Titonka area and later moved to Buffalo Center.

In the early 1960s, Edith purchased the Coffee Shop in Buffalo Center and operated it for fifteen years. She enjoyed visiting and joking around with all her customers and was known for all her delicious homemade meals, cinnamon rolls, cakes, and pies. Following her time in the restaurant, she worked as a cook and lunch room attendant in the school at Buffalo Center. She enjoyed her time with all of the students in the lunchroom, and her sense of humor gave many students special memories of their time in the school cafeteria. After retiring from the school, she worked part-time at the local hardware store.

A talented seamstress and quilt maker, Edith also enjoyed making beautiful cross-stitch and hardanger pieces cherished by many family members and friends. She also enjoyed working with her flowers and was always ready to share a slip or two with others to add to their gardens.

Edith cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, and they have all been blessed with many wonderful memories of her creativity and sense of humor.

Edith had a personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ and passed away at the Titonka Care Center on October 8, 2013, going to be with her Lord.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Phyllis Shortenhaus, of Buffalo Center; her granddaughter, Deb Abels, and her husband, Dan, of Thompson; and her grandson, Steve Shortenhaus, and his wife, Martha, of Buffalo Center; and her great-grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Abels and Kelly, Makeila, and Esther Shortenhaus; along with many nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Dorothy Dahl; her sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Ray Pitman; her granddaughter, Brenda Eisenhauer, and her son-in-law, Jim Shortenhaus.

Edith Fisher will always be remembered for her creativity, her sense of humor, her giving spirit, and for all of her delicious baked goods that she shared with others.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 11, 2013, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Brad DeVries officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery.
