May 17, 1935 - January 9, 2013FOREST CITY - Richard Disque, 77, of Forest City, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Richard Victor Disque, son of August and Velma (Moore) Disque, was born on May 17, 1935, at Lamberton, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Springfield, Minnesota, and attended school in Springfield. Through the Navy, he completed two years of college.
Married three times, Richard married first Mineko, who was from Japan. They had one son, Joey, and later divorced. He married second Jackie, a long-time friend who later passed away. He married third Phyllis Suby of Forest City in 1994.
Richard served for thirty years in the Navy from 1956 to 1984 and traveled all over the world. After retiring from the Navy, he spent an additional twelve years at an electric company.
Richard had many hobbies and interests including gardening and creating flower beds. He also loved reading and politics. An active member of the West Prairie Lutheran Church, he served on the church council. In addition, he was a member of the VFW in Leland.
Richard could find good in everyone and tried to avoid arguments, especially in the dog business. As part owner of Shiloh Kennels, he believed in hard work. He was always making changes and improvements, and he loved the puppies. A very caring and loving husband and father, he adored his grandchildren. A man to be proud of, he had a huge heart.
Richard is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Joey (Cindy) Disque, of Seattle, Washington; his grandson, Daniel Disque; his step-sons, Monte (Dawn) Moore, of Forest City, and Brett (Ree) Moore, of Lake Mills; his step-grandchildren, Caitlin, Mariah, Riley, Jacob, Natalie, Michael, Becky, Cristy, Samantha, and Darcy; two step-great-grandchildren, Marni and Drew; his brother, Eugene (Jan) Disque, of Owatonna, Minnesota, and his sisters, Marji Balfany, of Waseca, Minnesota, Jenny (Bruce) Johnson, also of Waseca, Minnesota, Carol (Jim) Heinrich, of Medford, Minnesota, and Janice (Al) Schmitz, of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jackie; a sister, Vi Dietz; and a brother-in-law, Neal Balfany.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland with Pastor Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. Burial will be at West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Leland with Military Honors provided by Leland VFW Post 6161. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Richard's name be made to: Meso Foundation, P. O.
