March 23, 1935 - December 6, 2011

THOMPSON- Paul Johnson, 76, of Thompson, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

One of five children, Paul Ivan Johnson was born on March 23, 1935, in Forest City, Iowa, to Tommy and Josie (Osheim) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Thompson. In 1952, he graduated from Thompson High School. Paul was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson where he served as president of the congregation.

He married Bonnie Mau on July 27, 1957, and to this union, three children were born. Paul farmed and lived on an acreage south of Thompson all his life. He enjoyed watching sports, playing baseball, planting trees, and establishing wetlands for the wildlife.

Paul is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughters, Sandy (Chuck) Fandel, of Estherville, and Lisa (Don) Mathahs, of Thompson; his son, Tom (Kathy) Johnson, of Humboldt; six grandchildren: Craig, Keith, and Laura Fandel, and Rebecca, Kelli, and Lindsey Johnson; his sister, Ruth McKee, of Garner; his brother-in-law Bill Stille, of Texas; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson, of Lake Mills, and Audrey Stille, of Salisbury, Maryland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mardelle and Lois; a brother, Neal; and a nephew, Randy.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Boyd Longshore officiating. Burial will be held at West Prairie Cemetery in Thompson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
