Margaret E. Peterson
January 4, 1920 - December 3, 2011

FOREST CITY - Margaret E. Peterson, 91, of Forest City, died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Margaret Evelyn Peterson was born on January 4, 1920, in Wallingford, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Berdahl) Peterson, the youngest of eight children. She received her elementary education in the rural schools of Emmett County near her home.

The family moved to a farm north of Hayfield, Iowa, in 1930, and Margaret graduated from Hayfield Consolidated School in 1937. She lived with her family on the farm, helping with field work and chores. She also worked at the A&W Restaurant in Forest City, for eighteen years.

For five consecutive years, 2000-2005, Margaret had recipes published in the Taste of Home's annual cookbook along with being in the Country Woman magazine. She also published two cookbooks. Margaret was a wonderful baker. She entered many baking contests and won several blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair, often with recipes using unusual ingredients and flavors. In 1980, the family moved into Forest City.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active in circle. Music was an important part of her life. A gifted pianist, she played the piano at church and for family. She always had the radio tuned to KIOW, listening to all kinds of music and waiting for her chance to win another contest!

Margaret is survived by two nieces and three nephews: Marlys Clark, of Fertile, and Marylou Maklenburg, of Mason City; Allan Peterson, of Mobile, Alabama, Gaylon Peterson, of Miami, Florida, and Marvin Peterson, of Clearwater, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Elmer, Maurice, Eddie, Raymond, Earl, and Curtis; her sister, Judith; a nephew, Romane; and a niece, Marlene.

Memorial Service will be held at a future date in the spring.
