Norma Jean King
February 28, 1929 - June 10, 2019

Norma Jean King, 90, of Forest City, died on Monday, June 10, 2019, at her residence.

Norma Jean Eddy was born to Glenn and Mary (Brink) Eddy in Swaledale, Iowa, on February 28, 1929. She attended school in Swaledale, graduating in 1946. She, then, furthered her education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City. In 1947, she married Robert Schaffer, and to their union, two daughters were born, Jane Ann, in 1948, and Rosemary, in 1949. In 1952, however, they divorced. Then, in 1955, Norma married Glenn Hanson. With this marriage, she was blessed with a son, Stephen Hanson, and the girls were blessed with a brother. Then, in 1958, Norma and Glenn were blessed with a daughter, Sue. After Glenn died in 1969, Norma and the children moved into town from the farm. While working at the Harrison Store, she met Marvin King in 1975. They married in 1977 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Working together, they both enjoyed delivering Winnebagos, traveling to all fifty states as well as to many Canadian provinces.

Marvin and Norma enjoyed spending nine winters in the southern climate. She, also, liked playing cards as well as other games with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She included skipbo, scrabble, and various card games among her favorites. In addition, she had a huge loving heart, enjoyed helping anyone in need, and most of all, she had an insatiable sweet tooth!

A long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Norma participated in many aspects of church life through the years. She will, indeed, be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Norma is survived by her children, Jane Whitehurst, and her husband, Jerry, of Ollie, Iowa, Stephen Hanson, and his wife, Mary, of Waverly, Iowa, Susan Strampe, and her husband, Curtis, of Omaha, Nebraska, and David King; seven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; as well as by a sister-in-law, Lorraine Eddy, of Swaledale, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosemary Miller; her husband, Marvin King; her brothers, Glenn, Leo, and Elmer Eddy; and her sisters, Ruth Martin and Marge Miller.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 17, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Zech Anderson officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for one hour before services at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Forest City Senior Citizen Center.
