Marian Virginia Jennings
April 6, 1930 - May 23, 2019

Marian Virginia Jennings, 89, of Forest City, died on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the MercyOne Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa

Marian was born on April 6, 1930, to Roy and Gail (Brunsvold) Peterson, on a farm in Newton Township near Lake Mills. Baptized at North Prairie Lutheran Church near Scarville and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown, she attended country school in Winnebago and Worth counties before enrolling at Hanlontown High School where she graduated in 1948.

While in high school, Marian met Roger Jennings, the love of her life, whom she married on August 25, 1951. They were seemingly inseparable. Where there was one, there was almost always the other. Last August, they celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary.

After graduating from high school, Marian worked as the bookkeeper and cashier at Citizens Savings Bank in Hanlontown for almost ten years. In 1953, she and Roger moved to a farm west of Fertile which became their lifelong home. There, they raised their three children and continued to live even after they retired.

Marian worked alongside Roger her entire life. They loved to farm and raise livestock, especially cattle. After Roger and his brother, Ralph, purchased The Cow Palace Sale Barn in 1971, Marian became the bookkeeper and office manager. Indeed, for over twenty years, she became the heart of the Jennings Brothers Cow Palace Auction business.

After retiring from the sales barn, Marian continued to help raise cattle on the farm. Their love of gardening, Marian’s passion, kept them busy. Above all, however, she most enjoyed wintering in Florida, making frequent trips to Branson, and spending as much time as possible with family, especially with her grandchildren.

Marian participated in many community and church organizations, including serving as a 4-H leader and a member of the Worth County Election Board.

Marian is survived by her children: Matthew (Kim) Jennings, of Hanlontown, Tim (Stephanie) Jennings, also of Hanlontown, and Lorelei (Matt) Olson, of Fertile; her grandchildren: Sarah (Jim) Masterson, of Duluth, Minnesota; Tyler Johnson, of Pomona, California; Courtney (Keaton) Schauermann, of Forest City; Paige Jennings, of Rudd; and Spencer, Lewis, and Elijah Olson, of Fertile; four great grandchildren: Briley, Adley, Emerson, and Wells; her sister, Muriel Bergan, of Hanlontown; and her sisters-in-law, JoAnn Peterson, of Kensett, and Lois Jennings, of Clear Lake; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Marvin Peterson; her father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Lena Jennings; her brothers-in-law: Arden Bergan, Raymond Jennings, Jr., and Ralph Jennings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church, 2391 330th Street, Forest City, Iowa, with Rev. Robert Snitzer officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa, and for one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church.
