Irine Alice Peterson
July 17, 1924 - May 11, 2019

Irine Alice (Willert) Peterson, age 94, of Forest City, formerly of Thompson, died on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa.

Irine Peterson was born on July 17, 1924, in Winnebago County to Carl and Emma (Johnson) Willert. Baptized at the United Methodist Church in Thompson, she attended country school southeast of Thompson. Then, on March 17, 1946, she married Vern R. Peterson. Subsequently, they had three children.

During World War II, Irine worked at Small Arm in St. Louis, Missouri. For twenty-eight years following her wedding, she worked at Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills. She loved gardening, attending to her flowers, and listening to music. In addition, she and Vern liked taking bus trips, and they saw a lot of the country. Moreover, they enjoyed camping for a few years.

Proud of her family, Irine took every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Thompson, she belonged to the UMC Women and Priscilla Circle besides serving as the church's financial secretary.

Survivors include her children: Betty Krull, of Mason City, Iowa, Doug (Donna) Peterson, of Nashua, Iowa, and Juanita (Allen) Severson, of Fertile, Iowa; five grandchildren: Julie (Brian) Kenaga; Mike (Carye) Krull; and James (Andrea), Timothy (Kim), and Todd (Katie) Severson; eight great-grandchildren: Josie Fritz; Dillon Kenaga; Katie and Nathan Krull; and Hannah, Harrison, Landon, and Layne Severson; and a sister, Emma Knapper, of Lake Mills; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Irine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern; her brothers: Henry, Johnnie, Fred, Elmer, Carl, Jr., and Walt Willert; her sisters: Pearl Alphs, Margaret Heitland, Mary Albers, Gladys Brekken, and Agnes Thompson; and a son-in-law, Keith Krull.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 17, 2019, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. Visitation will is scheduled for one hour before the service on Friday. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Society, 606 South 7th Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436, Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street, SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401, or to the United Methodist Church, 215 1st Avenue, Thompson, Iowa 50478.
