Lorraine Mavis (Stalheim) Grimsbo, age 90, of rural Lake Mills, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Lorraine was born on June 1, 1928, to Nels and Karine (Hagen) Stalheim in Bristol township, Worth County, Iowa. Baptized on July 1, 1928, at Somber Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed there on August 23, 1942, she began first grade in the Silver Lake County School #6, where she attended through the eighth grade. In 1946, she graduated from Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, Minnesota. Since she always wanted to become a teacher, she attended the Minnesota Teacher’s Training Department in Wells, Minnesota, where she earned a teacher’s certificate. Subsequently, she taught country school in Freeborn County for six years before she married.

On June 20, 1952, Lorraine and Paul Ingvald Grimsbo became husband and wife at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. In due course, they had two children, Pamela and Channing. Later, Lorraine returned to college to further her education at both Mason City Junior College and Mankato State College before becoming the fourth-grade teacher for the Emmons Public School where she taught for sixteen years. Honored during that time as the Teacher of the Year for Freeborn County, she, nonetheless, left teaching to farm full-time with her husband, Paul, and father-in-law, Ingvald.

Active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, as a member of WELCA, a participant in women’s Bible study, and a Sunday school teacher and choir member, Lorraine served on the Altar Guild as well. A charter member in the Nordic Lodge Sons of Norway and the Sunnfjord Organization, she, like her husband, treasured her Norwegian heritage. After retiring, Lorraine enjoyed mowing her lawn and caring for her flower garden.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Dr. Pamela (Dr. Terry) Kapple, of Parnell, Iowa; her son, Channing (Elisabeth) Grimsbo, of Indianola, Iowa; five grandchildren: Lydia Grimsbo, of Indianola, Iowa; Benjamin Kapple, of Parnell, Iowa, Brant Kapple, of Manhattan, New York, Tate Kapple, of Spokane, Washington, and Sarah (John) Pierce, of Evansville, Indiana; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Pierce; a sister, Leona Bjelland, and a brother, Norlan (Betty) Stalheim, both of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Dille, of Newton, Iowa; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents, Nels and Karine Stalheim; her sister, Katherine Varland; and her brothers, Kenton and Donald Stalheim,

A memorial service will be held for Lorraine at a later date this summer with inurnment at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Scarville, Iowa.
