May 10, 1926 - April 11, 2019June I. Anderson, 92, of Forest City, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.
June Ione (Roberson) Anderson, was born on May 10, 1926, on a farm near Kensett, Iowa. The second of four children of Lawrence L. and Julie (Lee) Roberson, she was baptized at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa, and confirmed by Rev. Alvin N. Rogness on May 12, 1940. That same summer, June attended Bible Camp in Clear Lake and a hymn she sang that week, “Living for Jesus” became the theme for her life. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 1943, and the family moved to a farm nine miles west of Forest City that spring. In the summer of 1944, June attended Estherville Teacher’s College and then spent the next three years teaching in various country schools. On November 23, 1945, she married Dean M. Anderson of Thompson at the Lutheran Church in Thompson. They moved to her parents’ farm west of Forest City in 1947 where they continued to live and farm. Subsequently, they were blessed with four daughters and a son.
June loved keeping busy. She helped on the farm, planted and tended to a big garden, served as a 4-H leader, taught Sunday school, and participated in the Dorcas Circle and Do Day Quilting at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included decorating wedding cakes, sewing, crocheting, quilting, taking photographs, researching her family genealogy, traveling, fishing, and painting. In addition, for over thirty years, she taught oil painting classes either in their summer home in their Forest City or at their winter residence in Arizona or Texas. Even her grandchildren loved to paint at Grandma’s house! Moreover, each summer, June and Dean enjoyed camping with the North Iowa Travelers. Following her interest in genealogy, she collected personal stories and pictures for three family history books which all the members of her treasure. Above all else, she treasured her faith and family.
June is survived by her husband, Dean; four daughters, Judy (Ed) Benson, of Lansing, Iowa, Linda Kennedy (Ron Hein), of Waseca, Minnesota, Kathy (Carter) Blaine, of Rochester, Minnesota, and Sandy Anderson of Lakeville, Minnesota; a son, James Anderson, of Forest City; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Ann (Walter) Arensmeyer, of Loveland, Colorado; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leonard, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Harold (Mavis), of Payson, Arizona; and a great granddaughter, Hattie Benson, of Barrow, Alaska. June will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. Visitation will is scheduled for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.
