Lila I. Rauk
April 8, 1937 - March 19, 2019

Surrounded by her family, Lila I. Rauk, 81, of Leland, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

Lila Rauk, the first-born daughter of Ingvald and Lavina (Torkelson) Askeland, was born on April 8, 1937, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. After graduating from Buffalo Center High School in 1954, she began working at the local hospital. Then, on March 18, 1955, she married Carlin “Butch” Egesdal, Jr. As a young couple, they ran the locker in Ledyard before becoming farmers in several surrounding communities. In 1966, they purchased a small farm near Leland where Lila lived until she moved to Forest Plaza in 2009. In 1978, two years after Butch was tragically killed in a small plane crash, Lila married Arlyn Rauk. During the years between her marriages, Lila became known as an outstanding hog farmer and ultimately, her passion for farming led Arlyn to escape his bachelor’s life. Together, they enjoyed raising pigs, cows, crops, and grandchildren.

Lila will always be remembered as an incredibly hardworking lady. She loved to bake and would often deliver bars or kringla to the guys at the elevator or in the fields. After retiring from hog farming, Lila loved spending time on her John Deere lawn tractor and shopping at her favorite gift shops. Most of all, however, she loved playing with her grandchildren and teaching them many bits of wisdom. She taught them all to love Jesus, the land, animals, and ice cream.

Lila is, lovingly, remembered by her three children: Kathy (Joe) Skeens, of Clive, Iowa, Darla (Stuart) Summers, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Mark (Tammy) Egesdal, of Leland; her thirteen grandchildren/step-grandchildren: Vanessa (Justin) Brady; Amber, Annette, Ashley, Zachary (Michaela), and Zarren Egesdal; Brittany (Travis) Hanson-Pollack; Jennith (Joseph) Poferl; Katelyn Skeens; Nelson and Spencer (Elise) Summers; Dane Tarmann; and Courtney (Joe) Wilson; her four great grandchildren: Carter Egesdal; Jasper and Zeke Poferl; and Adeline Wilson; her four siblings: Koreen (Karen) and Orvin Askeland; Carolyn Skogen; and Diane (Steve) Christianson; as well as by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, David, on September 24, 1964; her husbands, Butch Egesdal, on July 10, 1976, and Arlyn Rauk on January 30, 2005; and her parents, Ingvald and Lavina Askeland.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, 40029 210th Avenue, Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 22, 2019, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Winnebago Lutheran Church.
