Erma J. Gettis
July 11, 1934 - January 28, 2019

At the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Erma Gettis, age 84, of Lake Mills, went home to her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2019, after bravely battling Parkinson's disease/Lewy Body Dementia.

Erma Jean Gettis was born in Forest City on July 11, 1934, to Henry and Alta (Steenhard) Ahlfs. She attended country school, and later graduated from Crystal Lake High School. On September 3, 1955, Erma married Lyle Gettis at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa. They, subsequently, made their home at various locations in North Central Iowa.

A devout member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, Erma became a selfless servant in helping meet the needs of others throughout her life. Moreover, she took pride in cleaning for many local businesses and individuals as well as in a mowing and snow blowing business with her loving husband Lyle until he passed on. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

Erma is survived by her three children: Randy (Jane) Gettis, of Winnebago, Minnesota, Linda Schuller (significant other, Russell Baldwin), of Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Tammy Gettis (significant other Alan Brandenburg), of Garner, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Benjamin (Autumn) Gettis, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Sarah Gettis, of Winnebago, Minnesota, Amanda and Taylor Barkema, of Garner, Ohio, Cassandra Barkema, of Britt, Iowa, Melissa (Mason) Kelly, of Milford, Ohio, Christopher (Savannah) Schuller, of Fort Sills, Oklahoma, Thomas Schuller, of Kodiak, Alaska, Katie Schuller, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Brittany Schuller, of Galion, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Malek, of Garner, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Dale (Clara) Gettis. of Mason City, Iowa; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, Iowa, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kevin Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 1, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
