Mary A. Ryerson
February 21, 1941 - June 20, 2018Mary A. Ryerson, age 77, of rural Scarville, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at her home.
Mary Anne (Timmerman) Ryerson was born on February 21, 1941, in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Henry and Greone (Kessler) Timmerman. She attended and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and went on to enroll at Iowa Central Community College.
While at Iowa Central, she met her future husband, Ronald Ryerson. The two wed on January 22, 1961, in Eagle Grove. They were blessed with three children: Pam, Randy, and Dan. Settling down, they made their home in rural Scarville where Ron farmed and Mary enjoyed life as a farm wife and homemaker.
Known for her cinnamon rolls, Mary worked as a baker in the kitchen for the Thompson Community School District. In addition, she helped Randy farm for twelve years after Ron died. Employed by Fleetguard Industries/Cummins Filtration in Lake Mills for a number of years, she retired in 2006.
Mary treasured spending time quilting, baking, and socializing with family and friends. Indeed, sharing laughter with her friends while quilting gave her life meaning, and her family will, always, cherishes the finished products. In addition, she felt proud cheering on her grandchildren in all of their school activities. Indeed, she spent many evenings in the stands in gyms and at the football fields.
For the past year Mary had been battling cancer, fighting it with her stubborn no-nonsense approach. She passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
She will be missed by her three children, Pam (Marshall) Swan, of Hardy, Iowa, Randy Ryerson, of Scarville, Iowa, and Dan (Janet) Ryerson, of Ventura, Iowa; five grandchildren: Marcus and Andrew Swan; and Zach, Logan, and Morgan Ryerson; and her siblings: Gloria (Bob) Butler, of Camanche, Iowa, Dale (Ilene) Timmerman, of Belmond, Iowa, and Beverly and Ted (Ambie) Timmerman, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald; and two brothers, Fred and Jerry Timmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 15722 490th Street, Scarville, Iowa, with Lay Minister Vickie Zobel officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Burial will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery.
