Phillip Eugene Helland, age 67, of rural Lake Mills, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018, at his home.

Phillip Eugene Helland, a son of Alvin and Madeline (Pederson) Helland, was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on August 20, 1950. Having grown up in rural Bricelyn, Minnesota, and Scarville, Iowa, he graduated from Lake Mills Community School in 1968. On April 25, 1987, he married Leona (Roberts) Helland at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Phillip enjoyed spending time with family, camping and fishing, doing carpentry work in his shop, using computers, enjoying nature, and making cars for the derby races at Family Christmas.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Leona; his children¨ Christopher (Krystal) Helland, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Michael Helland, of Grimes, Iowa, OnaLee (Dale) VanHeiden, of Lake Mills, Melissa (Otis) Sorbo, of Waldorf, Minnesota, and Nicky Helland, of Forest City, Iowa; and seven grandchildren: Piper Helland, Jareth Cross; Treize and Teyla VanHeiden; and Gavin, Delilah and Lillian Sorbo; and his brothers and sisters: Richard (Nancy) Helland, of Emmons, Minnesota, Carolyn Thompson, of Austin, Minnesota, Judy Roslien, of Moberly, Missouri, Wayne (Ellen) Helland, of Scarville, Iowa, and Karen (David) Helland, of Springfield, Illinois; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville. Visitation for Phillip will be on Monday, May 21, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church.
