Marlene D. Krull
July 22, 1935 - May 18, 2018

Marlene DeLores (Lovik) Krull was born on July 22, 1935, to Hazel Ruth (Brue) and Thomas H. Lovik on the Lovik farm by Lake Mills, Iowa. She attended Jensen Country School for eight years and then enrolled at Lake Mills High School, graduating in 1953. While in college, she joined the Waldorf College Concert Choir and the Band.

Marlene met Alroy Krull, the love of her life, on a train. Both had won trips to Chicago through the 4-H. In her words, "He asked me if anyone was sitting with me," and I said, "no," so he sat down with me and the rest is history! They married on October 1, 1955, and they treasured their fifty-seven years together.

Marlene held jobs at the Winnebago County ASCS Office, the Mason City Globe Gazette, the Buffalo Center School, the Forest Federal Savings and Loan, the Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan, and the Timely Mission Nursing Home. For fifteen years, they, also, owned and operated Mr. K's Kustom Katering and Restaurant, catering weddings and other festivities.

Music played a big role in Marlene's life. She sang in choirs and small groups. She served as church organist for the Winnebago Lutheran Church, the Christian Reformed Church in Mason City and the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center for a total of sixty-six years. Moreover, she taught over forty piano students annually for many years.

Marlene valued her faith. A member of the First Reformed Church, she sang in the choir, served on consistory, joined the Esther Circle, and played the organ for nearly fifty years at the First Reformed Church. Having centered her life on her family, she attended her grandchildren’s events and hosted many family gatherings. She loved to cook and bake and won all their hearts with her special Christmas goodies. Marlene, also, lived for playing cards. Even when life got tough, she wouldn't miss a night of cards with her many special friends.

Marlene died on May 18, 2018, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Sher and John Blomster, of Buffalo Center, Patricia Lauritsen, of Mason City, Mark and Shelda Krull, of Buffalo Center, and Jamie Krull and Teresa Gray, of Maple Grove, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren: Brett and Rachel Venteicher and Lainey, Gabby, Caleb, and Jenna, of Algona; Scott and Gina Venteicher and Gwendalyn, Simon, and Roscoe, of Urbandale; Mara and Michael Walsted and Jessa, of Swea City; Autumn Lauritsen, of Mason City; Katy Lauritsen and Dakota and Jude, of Mason City; Wendy Krull and Alyssa and Aiden, of JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Dan and Julie Krull and Quinten and Kaden, of Indianola; Eric Krull, of Woden and Savannah, Sierra and Scarlett Krull, of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Chris and Tara Blomster and Sean and Holly, of Oronoco, Minnesota; Jenny and Pete Burns and Weston and Everett, of LeSueur, Minnesota; and her sisters- and brother-in-law: Joyce and Loren Shiers; Betty Baker; Ardella and LeEtta Krull; and Eleanor and Beverly Lovik; as well as by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
