Leone Clara "Oney" Hanson
July 15, 1941 - May 13, 2018

Leone “Oney” Clara Hanson, 76, a life-long resident of Lake Mills, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Oney was born on July 15, 1941, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Gilbert and Margaret Bidne. She attended school in Scarville, Iowa, and finished at Lake Mills High School with the class of 1959. In 1961, she earned an Associate of Arts degree from Waldorf College.

Next, Oney worked as a secretary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, she met her future husband, Duane Hanson. They both shared the same love of country music and married on August 9, 1963, at the North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Scarville. Soon after, they moved to the Bidne family farm where they spent most of their married life.

Oney held many jobs over the years. She worked at Stitchcraft, the Winnebago County Home, the Lake Mills Fertilizer Plant, the Lake Mills Nursing Home, the Lake Mills Co-op Creamery, and the Scarville Post Office.

An active member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, Oney served in many capacities. In addition, she enjoyed league bowling, the snowmobilers club, the River City Sweet Adelines Chorus, and the birthday club as well as many card clubs over the years.

A lifelong crafter, she did everything from needlework, toll painting, ceramics, quilting, photography, knitting, to crocheting. Most of all, however, she valued the many scrapbooks she created for each of her grandchildren. Indeed, she left her mark in many ways for others to treasure.

Throughout their lives, she and Duane enjoyed family gatherings that involved music. To that end, they traveled to Branson, Missouri, to attend country, gospel, and blue-grass music performances together on Saturday evenings. Above all else, however, Oney treasured her family. After they became grandparents, she and Duane enjoyed cheering on their grandchildren as they participated in their many activities.

Oney is survived by her three children: her daughter, Deb (Troy) Heller, of Tripoli, Iowa, and her sons, Mike (Beth) Hanson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Corey Hanson, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, six grandchildren: Kyle (Carli), Kirstin, Kolby, and Keely Heller and T.J. and Hannah Hanson; and her great granddaughters: Cayleigh, Mylah, and Victoria Heller due to arrive in August; as well as by her brother- and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by Duane Hanson, her husband of fifty-two years; her parents, Gilbert and Margaret Bidne; her parents-in-laws, Edmund and Sarah Hanson; her infant brothers, Wayne and William; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 105 East 3rd Street, Scarville, Iowa 50473, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. A gathering of friends and family will assemble from 10:00 A.M. till service time on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the church in Scarville. Burial of cremains will follow in the North Prairie Cemetery.
