Rollin "Todd" Kiewiet
October 5, 1926 - January 30, 2018

Rollin "Todd" Meryl, 91, of Buffalo Center, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Todd, the ninth child in a family of seven boys and three girls, was born to William and Anna (Dirks) Kiewiet on October 5, 1926, on a farm south of Buffalo Center. After graduating from Buffalo Center High School in 1944, he worked on the family farm before enlisting in the United States Army. There, he, proudly, served our country during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On April 27, 1949, Todd married the love of his life, Ethel F. Dearing, and to their union five daughters were born: Karen, Kendra, Kay, Kristy, and Kerrie. Together, they farmed near Buffalo Center. In 1990, however, they moved to town and retired in 1991. Todd was very active in his church. He also served on the Co-op Oil board, the Farmers Elevator board, and was a past commander of the American Legion Post #21.

A very generous man, Todd enjoyed helping others and never needed a thank you. Proud of his family, he found his greatest joy in them. Indeed, he loved spending time with his wife, Ethel, as well as with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition, he had a passion for fishing, wood carving, and playing pool. In his free-time, he enjoyed going for coffee and socializing with friends.

Those left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life include Ethel, of Buffalo Center, his wife of nearly sixty-nine years; his daughters: Kendra (Keith) Hanna, of Northfield, Minnesota, and her children, Monica (Oliver) Schugel, Todd (Melissa Young) Hanna, and Tyler (Stephanie) Hanna; Kay (George) Silber, of Rochester, Minnesota, and her children, Rachel (Anthony Alberson) Silber and Sarah (Micah) Kuchta; Kristy (Keith) Frerichs, of Buffalo Center, and her children, Kelly (Jayden) Grupe, Kyle (Mara) Frerichs, and Katelin Frerichs; Kerrie (Dennis) Kollasch, of Mankato, Minnesota, and her children, Derrick and Jenna Kollasch; her son-in-law, Greg Engleman, of Astoria, Oregon, and his children, Angela Fry and Jeffery (Amanda) Engleman; twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dearing and Elaine Nelson; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and many very special friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Engleman; his parents; his brothers, Henry, Jacob, Vernon, Carl, Wilbur, and Lloyd; and his sisters, Lillian Beaving, Charlotte Bennett, and Gwen Cohn.

The family would like to thank you for the kindness shown to Todd and to us at this time. In lieu of individual thank you notes, the postage saved and any memorials will be given to the United Methodist Church of Buffalo Center or to the American Legion Post #21 unless otherwise specified.

Please no scented lotions, perfumes, or colognes at the visitation or the funeral because of allergies.
