Mary Ann Evans, 80, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A daughter of Myron and Ellen (Hildahl) Martinson, Mary Ann was born on November 7, 1937, in Decorah, Iowa. After graduating from Forest City High School with the class of 1955, she attended Waldorf College for a year. Next, she married Adolph Swenson with whom she had two daughters, Melanie and Nancy. In 1980, however, Mary Ann married Ken Evans in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She and Ken enjoyed their motorcycle trips to Sturgis and road trips in their Corvette. For many years, Mary Ann worked at Compact Industries and Larson Manufacturing in Lake Mills. Nonetheless, after retiring from Larson's in 2003, she moved to Forest City where she built her home at Bear Creek Ct.

Mary Ann enjoyed many years of traveling to various locations. Of all their trips, a sojourn to Norway with her brother, Dale, her sister, Chick, and their spouses proved one of her most memorable. Otherwise, Mary Ann liked walking, riding her bike, dancing, completing hardanger projects, rosemaling, and baking lefse. In addition, she loved visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Currently, she was residing at Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Melanie (Mark) Richardson, of Burlington, Iowa, and Nancy (Dick) Welp, of Forest City; six grandchildren, Matthew (Kelli) Welp, Adam (Katie) Welp, Jillian Welp, and her fiancé, Kolton Reed, and Michael (Tessa), Christopher, and John Richardson; five great grandchildren; a brother, Dale Martinson, of Radcliffe, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Elaine (Chick) Thurston, of Forest City; a sister-in-law, Joanne Evans, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and a brother-in-law, Andy Tatarek, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as by a special friend, Joe Schafer of Mason City.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ken; her brother-in-law, Eugene Evans; and her sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Tatarek and Adoline Martinson.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held during the hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City in Mary’s name.
