March 11, 1931 - October 22, 2017

Beverly Arlys Helgren, 86, of Thompson, died on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at her home.

Beverly Arlys Helgren, a daughter of Harold E. and Ruth E. (Lenz) Haberkamp, was born on March 11, 1931, in rural Hancock County, Iowa. After attending and graduating from Garner Schools, she continued her education at Waldorf College. In 1951, she married Ernest Jean Helgren at the Peace Reformed Church in Garner, Iowa. To their union, four children were born. In her younger years, she worked at the Hancock County Bank and served as a long-time custodian at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. She, also, helped with the family construction business. She loved working with her hands. Beverly enjoyed gardening and had a large strawberry patch for many years. In her free-time, she loved quilting and embroidering. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Beverly is survived by her children: Shirley (Curtis) Anderson, of Garner, Palmer Helgren, of Thompson, and Harlan (Debi) Helgren, of Fairfax, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Nathan (Luz) Anderson and Amanda (Andy) Braun, both of Altoona, Erika (Brett) Burkhart, of Ankeny, Erin Helgren, of Denver, Colorado, and Melissa (Nathan) Noland, of Bondurant; her great-grandchildren: Anderson, Carrissa, Christopher, Etta, Kristian, Nyah, Olivia, Walter, and Wesely; her sister, Bethel Lemke, and husband, Ferd, and her sister-in-law, Helen Trenhaile. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Jean, in 2004; her son, Edward W., in 2003; her brothers-in-law, Marvin, and his wife, Kathy Helgren, Clark Trenhaile, and Gordon and Alpha Vail.

Visitation will take place between 4:00 and 6:00 P.M., Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson and for one hour before the services at the church on Friday. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 27, 2017, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 183 2nd Ave. East, Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Judy Wozniak officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
