January 7, 1931 ~ October 7, 2017 (age 86)

Mrs. Mardelle Baur, 86, of Bloomington, Illinois, formerly of Calamus and Forest City, Iowa, died on Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2017, at the Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community in Chenoa, Illinois.

Mardelle Darlene Mueller was born on January 7, 1931, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Ellis and Margaret (Christensen) Mueller. A graduate of Calamus High School and St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, she married the Rev. Richard Baur on July 1, 1956, at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. Mardelle taught Music and English at Calamus and later taught Sophomore English at Forest City. She, also, actively participated in the music programs at the various churches her husband served. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2002. A longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, and more recently of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, she loved music, quilting, traveling, especially to Hawaii and Colorado, and spending time with her sisters, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, SueAnn (Lee) Goeken, of Kaysville, Utah, Aleta (Russ) Mikels, of Bloomfield, Iowa, and John (Melinda) Baur, of Bloomington; her grandchildren: Claire and Benjamin (Chloe) Baur; Natalee Goeken; Blaise (Becky), Gage, and Park Mikels; a great-grandson, Isaac Mikels; and a sister, Alois Erickson, of Nora Springs, Iowa; as well as nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Meryne Henning, and two brothers-in-law, Dean Erickson and Doug Henning.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, Iowa, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, with the Rev. William Runaas, Jr., officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at the Kvindherred Cemetery, rural Calamus. Memorials may be designated to the Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, 24588 Church Street, Cheonoa, Illinois 61726.
