Philip Marvin Hanson
July 4, 1946 - June 19, 2017Chanhassen, Minnesota – Philip Marvin Hanson, 70, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, June 19th, 2017, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a battle with cancer.
Philip, a son of Irvin and Pauline Youngquist Hanson, was born on July 4th, 1946, in Forest City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church, he attended country school at Ellington #1 before transferring and graduating from Forest City High School in 1963. After graduating from Waldorf College, he attended and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a teaching degree in Mathematics. He was, then, drafted into the United States Marines and served in Vietnam.
Phil worked with his dad and his cousin, Larry Lovick, in farming for two years. Next, he attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Before moving to Minnesota, he worked in Des Moines, Iowa. In Minneapolis, he and a friend owned a computer business, DMS Consulting. After retiring, he enjoyed landscaping projects, gardening, and feeding the birds at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He, also, spent time at his cabin in northern Wisconsin.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Everhart, of Mason City, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was, also, blessed to have many friends in the Chanhassen area.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Irvin and Pauline Hanson; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sandra Hanson, of Forest City; and his brother-in-law, Jack Everhart, of Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa, with Rev. Steve Bang officiating. A gathering of family and friends will start at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial of his cremains will take place at Madison Township Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Forest City American Legion Honor Guard. A reception will follow at the Forest City Senior Citizen Center. Memorials may be directed to his name in care of the family.
