Judith Ann (Legried) Matheson
August 26, 1942 - June 12, 2017Judith Ann (Legried) Matheson, a daughter of Fred and Kathryn (Eberhardt) Weber, was born August 26, 1942, in Mankato, Minnesota. Following her graduation from Blue Earth High School in 1960, Judy moved to Minneapolis and worked for Northwestern National Bank.
On January 8, 1961, she married Keith Legried. The couple ran a café in Rake and in 1964 began farming east of town. There, they raised their two children, Brian and Beth. They enjoyed spending time with friends, taking meandering road trip vacations, and farming together until Keith's death in 1990. Judy, however, continued farming with her son-in-law, Randy, until she retired in 1994. On February 2, 1992, she married Glendon Matheson. She continued to work part-time in the Rake Post Office and the community grocery store.
During this period of her life, she enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, watching the birds, and reading, and she never met an animal she didn't like. An active member of the Zion Lutheran Church and involved in her community, she served on the Rake Library board.
Judy died on Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Lake Mills Care Center at the age of 74. She is survived by her husband, Glendon Matheson; her son, Brian (Tonia Denzer) Legried, of Omaha, Nebraska; her daughter, Beth (Randy) Risius, of Buffalo Center; her grandson, Erik Legried; and her granddaughter, Sarah Legried.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Keith Legried, and her brother, Fred Weber, Jr. Judy will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, proud grandmother, caring friend, and dedicated servant of the Lord.
A funeral service for Judith Ann (Legried) Matheson will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Rake, Iowa, with Reverend Doug Rokke officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Oakcrest Funeral Services - Winter Chapel, Buffalo Center, Iowa. Interment will follow at the West Cemetery in Rake. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, the Rake Library, or Hospice of North Iowa.
