John Niles Hermanson
July 28, 1940 - May 24, 2017

John Niles Hermanson, 76, from Scarville, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa.

A son of Emil G. and Ruth H. (Olson) Hermanson, John was born on July 28, 1940, in Kiester, Minnesota. In 1957, he graduated from Lake Mills High School. In 1959, he married Dorothy Troe; in 1974, he married Marcia Joy Awe; and in 2009, he married Mary Theresa “Trish” Garcia.

For years he ran his own plumbing and heating business. Most recently, however, he worked as head of maintenance at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa. An inventor, he loved to travel. He, especially, liked going to the North Shore, the Nelson Cheese Factory, and the Eagle Center in Wabasha. An outdoor person, he, also, enjoyed camping, singing around the camp fire, and making breakfast on an old washing machine lid over an open flame.

He is survived by his wife, Trish, of Scarville, Iowa; his children, Diane Schulze, (Matt Coe) of Clear Lake, Iowa, Patrick (Michelle) Hermanson, of Scarville, Iowa, Chuck Olson, (Angie Lenetz Lass) of Moorhead, Minnesota, Timothy (Sheri Harpestad) Hermanson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Christian (Angela) Hermanson, of Bloomington, Minnesota, Jenny Subject, of Prescott, Wisconsin, Jessi (Ryan) Mary, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Mr. Peanut Horatio Hermanson (Canine Family Mascot); his grandchildren: Audi Autumn and Summer Busch Gordon; Josh Grothe; Dillon (Sharayah Vorland) Hacker; Adam, Ava, Brandon, and Seth Hermanson; Owen Mary Kaisen Mary; Nathan Ptacek; Steven (Cassandra) and Ryan (Kalyn) Schulze; his great grandchildren: Hailey Schulze, Harper Schulze, Hayden Schulze, and Trenton Schulze; along with his sister, Donna Watkins; his brother, Jerome (Judy) Hermanson; and his sister-in-law, Franceen Hermanson. John was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Donavan and John; his wife, Marcia Hermanson; in 2007, his brother, Ronald Hermanson; his brother-in-law, Peter Watkins; and his sister- and brother-in-law, Shirley and Paul VanKamen.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450. Cremation will take place after the visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 15722 490th Street, Scarville, Iowa 50473, with inurnment following at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville, Iowa, with Kermit Singelstad officiating.
