Edith M. Teig
May 9, 1922 - April 14, 2017

Edith Marie (Boyken) Teig was born on May 9, 1922, on the farm in rural Woden, Iowa, to John and Frieda (Fisher) Boyken. She grew up in the Woden area, graduating from a country school. Next, she studied at Waldorf College. After graduating from Waldorf, she moved on to the University of Colorado at Boulder. After completing her education, she taught in Buffalo Center.

Edith met John, the love of her life, when he returned home from World War II. On November 19, 1946, they married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Titonka. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Kathleen, Michael, and Betsy. Edith's life revolved, largely, around her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She, especially, loved golfing with John. In addition, she loved attending all the various events in which her children and grandchildren participated.

A woman of faith throughout her life, Edith, actively, participated in the life of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Involved with the Ruth Circle, the ladies quilting group, and Bible study, she, also, taught Sunday school, Bible school, and Bethel classes for many years.

Surrounded by her family, Edith died peacefully on Good Friday at the Titonka Care Center. She will be remembered for her snappy wit, generous heart, classy style, and authentic persona.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (David) Mazza, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Betsy (Randall) Goetz, of Buffalo Center; her grandchildren: James and Joseph Goetz; Christopher (Julie) and Sarah Mazza; and Jennifer Teig-Mascari, her great-grandchildren: Anabella, Christian, Johnathon, and Luciana Mascari; and Keegan and Leonardo Mazza; her sister, Carol (Konrad) Koosemann, of Fargo, North Dakota; and a special sister-in-law, Ruth Edwards, as well as many nieces and nephews. Those preceding her in death include her parents; her husband, John, in 2000; her son, Michael in 1985; and her sisters and brothers, Marge Rose, John Robert Boyken, Joann Abbas, and Roger Boyken.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be for one hour before the funeral service.
