James Wallace Adams
October 03, 1922 - April 15, 2017

Surrounded by his family, James W. Adams, age 94, of Lake Mills, was ushered into heaven on Saturday, April 15, 2017, having passed away at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

James Wallace Adams was born on October 3, 1922, in Worth County, Iowa, to Corbet and Sarah (Bye) Adams. Baptized on December 10, 1922, at Lime Creek Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1937 at Salem Lutheran Church, James attended country school at Bristol #3 and high school in Lake Mills.

On November 17, 1946, James married Maevis Sorbo at the Emmons Lutheran Church, Emmons, Minnesota. They made their home farming northeast of Lake Mills, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children. Maevis passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 1999. On September 14, 2001, James married Norma Singelstad Amundson at the First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. They enjoyed over fifteen blessed years together.

Faith, community, family, and farming formed the cornerstones of James’ life. He, faithfully, served his church as well as his community on various boards. A faithful member of the Sons of Norway, he, always, looked forward to working at the annual church lutefisk dinner. So very proud of his family, he became a wonderful caretaker to his siblings when they needed his help. His grandchildren, nieces, and nephews loved coming to the farm to experience farm life. Forced to scale-down his farm to a backyard garden in town in recent years, James, still, enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Well known for his great ability to tell stories about his life experiences and a stranger to no one, he had an infectious laugh, a mischievous smile, and a twinkle in his eye. He will be remembered as a blissful hard worker.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Adams, of Lake Mills; six children: Sharon (Harlan) Betz, of Castle Rock, Colorado, Kathy (Harold) Estes, of Northwood, Iowa, Shirley Hanson, of Huntley, Illinois, Janice Cordell, of Decorah, Iowa, Jerry Adams, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Bev (Tim) Nappe, of Milford, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren: Andrew and Jessica Adams; Joshua (Jill) Betz; Julie (Chris) Carlson; David (Mika Petersen) Gerber; Shannon (Chris) Green; Brian (Courtney) Hanson; Sarah (Mark) Loeffle; Sheryl (Chris) McCammon; Rebecca (Lisa) Moody; and Jenny (Gabe Hoover), Matthew (Margaret), and Rachel Nappe; twenty six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter expected in May; a brother, Don Adams, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Howard Hareid, Myra Richardson, Orva Sorensen, Sidney (Betty) Sorbo, Helen DeLooper, and Kari Singelstad; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Corbet and Sarah; his first wife, Maevis; his son-in-law, Robert Hanson; his sisters: Carma Adams, Blanche and Eva Hareid, and Cora Rice; his brothers- and sisters-in-law: LaVonne Adams; Norman DeLooper; Bertha (Norman) Eide; Martha (Charles) Flugum; Blanche, Eva (Louis), and Louis Hareid; Ron Richardson; Alfred, Hans, and Raymond (Oma Lee) Singelstad; Norlan (Marge) Sorbo, and Phillip Sorensen.

Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Emmons.
