Lois Elaine Haaland
February 10, 1926 - February 24, 2017

A daughter of Albert J. and Florence I. (Pate) Benson, Lois Elaine was born on February 10, 1926, in Dumcombe, Iowa. She grew up in the Fort Dodge area, graduating from Otho High School and completing one year at Iowa State Teachers College. She married Edward “Bud” Haaland on July 25, 1948, in Kalo, Iowa. They lived in the Fort Dodge area, Modesto, California, and Forest City, Iowa. In January of 1981, they moved to Long Prairie where she worked at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital. She and Bud were well known for originating “Bud’s” Creamery Antiques in Browerville in 1991.

A member of First Baptist Church in Long Prairie, Lois served in many capacities. Music was very important to Lois. She loved to sing, especially the old hymns with family and friends. In addition, Lois loved hospitality, opening their home for many- meals, baking, cooking, and coffee-times of visiting.

She is survived by her children, Charles (Debbie) Haaland, of South Haven, Mississippi, Sally (Harley) Hanson, of Long Prairie, and Susie (Robert) Schultz, of Excelsior, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward “Bud” Haaland, in 2003; her son, Stephen, in 1980; her brothers, Marvin, and her twin, Leland Benson; and her sisters, Selma Benson and Lorraine “Toodie” Hilstrom.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, Long Prairie, for Lois E. Haaland, age 91, of Long Prairie, Minnesota, who passed away on Friday at the Yuma Nursing Home, Yuma, Arizona. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Williams Dingmann Stein Chapel, Long Prairie, Minnesota, and for one hour before services on Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to Camp Lebanon and Samaritan’s Purse.
