Marjorie R. (Stowe) Felland
July 1, 1922 ~ March 1, 2017 (age 94)

Marjorie Felland, age 94, passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, Iowa, on March 1, 2017.

Marjorie Rohease Stowe was born on July 1, 1922, in Webb, Iowa, to Harry Beecher and Gladys Martha (Peterson) Stowe. While in high school, Marj played basketball for the Webb Spiderettes and served as president of her senior class. After attending Iowa State Teacher’s College, she graduated from Buena Vista College at age 18 with a teaching certificate.

Marj taught elementary school in Bradgate, Hubbard, and George, Iowa, before a teaching job brought her to Forest City, Iowa, in 1945. There, she met her future husband, Wally Felland. Marj and Wally married on June 5, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. They celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary in 2016.

Building their life together in Forest City, Marj and Wally raised two daughters, Vicky and Sherry. An exceptional “stay-at-home” mom, Marj is remembered as a wonderful cook, pie baker, seamstress, costume maker and birthday party hostess. In 1959, Marj and Wally designed and built a playhouse in their backyard, which provided many years of fun for their daughters and later for their grand-daughters. As a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She, also, led a Girl Scout troop.

An enthusiastic fan of Hawkeye basketball, Marj, also, enjoyed golfing with Wally and their friends. Wally and Marj owned and operated Wally’s Furniture in Forest City from 1977 until they retired in 1991. They were known throughout the Forest City community for their daily walks, always hand in hand. Together, they baked dozens of loaves of cinnamon coffeecake and delivered them to friends who needed comfort and cheer. After Wally's eyesight failed, Marj read novels and devotions aloud to him every day. A beautiful, kind, patient, and thoughtful lady, Marj, generously, shared her gift of love with her husband, family, and friends.

Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Wally, (in November 2016) and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Hanson, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; her daughters Vicky Payseur, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Sherry (Tim) Oliver, of Guttenberg, Iowa; and four granddaughters, Allison (Jeff) Attoe, of Deerfield, Wisconsin, Emily (Bryan) Hughes, of Norwalk, Iowa, Margaret (JC) Fuller, of Ogden, Iowa, and Martha Payseur (Ryan Ogren), of Des Moines, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Daxton and Greyson Hughes and Adelyn and Lilyana Attoe; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg on March 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. A graveside inurnment service for both Marj and Wally will follow on March 25, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.

Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Guttenberg, Iowa, 2017.
