January 6, 1920 - February 17, 2017Alroy “Blondie” Hanna, 97, of Mason City, formerly of Woden, Iowa, died on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A son of Sylvan and Helene (Holland) Hanna, Alroy was born on January 6, 1920, on the family farm, rural Woden. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School. On February 14, 1948, he married Audrey M. Jarshaw in Forest City, Iowa. They made their home on the family’s “Century” farm where they raised their family, enjoyed farm life, and belonged to Grant Lutheran Church. Before retiring, he worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. After retiring, he and Audrey moved to Mason City where they lived for the next thirty-five years.
In his younger years, Alroy enjoyed spending time on the golf course as well as teaching his kids and grandkids how to fish. Avid Minnesota Twins fans, he and Audrey spent hours watching them play. He, also, enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and making the occasional trip to the casino. Those who stopped to visit, found they couldn’t leave without sharing a piece of chocolate. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-nine years, Audrey, of Mason City; his three daughters: Debrah (Mike) Brock, Mason City, Linda (Duane) Jensen, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Brenda (Phil) Underbakke, of Blue Earth, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Kelly Becker; Tabitha Beckman; Adam, Chris, and Jeremy Brock; Alex and Lauren Hanna; Jason and Jina Jensen; and Joshua Underbakke; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson joining his family in June. Alroy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ardith; his brother, Vance, and his son, Bryan.
Memorial services will be held Monday, February 20, 2017, at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woden, Iowa, with Pastor Joshua Underbakke (grandson) and Rev. S. Kim Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. Inurnment will follow in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Woden, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woden, Iowa, or to Hospice of North Iowa.
