Christopher Willis Nyguard
January 10, 1968 - February 12, 2017

Christopher Willis Nyguard, age 49, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, February 12, 2017, in rural Lake Mills.

Christopher was born on January 10, 1968, in Mason City to Wayne and Judy (Brackey) Nyguard. Baptized at Bethany Church in Thompson and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, he graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1987. Then, he attended North Iowa Area Community College before graduating from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in 1991. At UNI, he joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity, a good move on his part because of the close friendships he developed with his fraternity brothers.

In 1996, Chris married Beth Rognes. They, then, moved to Des Moines where their son, Nicholas, was born. Next, they moved home to Lake Mills where their daughter, Natalie Jo, was born. Chris saw his children as the true loves in his life.

While living in Des Moines, Chris earned a certificate as a paralegal, allowing him to embark on a career that he enjoyed for many years. In 2013, after earning a certificate from the Worldwide College of Auctioneering, he started the Nyguard Auction Company.

Chris was a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles out of Waterloo. At one time, he had served as the post commander for the Sons of the American Legion Post 317 in Emmons.

Chris enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, watching the Vikings, coaching softball for Natalie, and he perfected the fine art of exaggerated storytelling, usually accompanied with a Busch Light. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, and community.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis Brackey, Silas and Arlene Nyguard. He leaves behind his wife, Beth; his children, Nick and Natalie; his parents, Wayne and Judy; his brother, Monty Nyguard; his grandparents, Don and Donna Anderson; his parents-in-law, Harvey and LaDonna Rognes; his sister in-law, Kelly (Lee) Charlson; his nieces, Harper and Sylvie; his nephew, Clayton; and his grandma-in-law, Betty Peterson, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastors Joel Guttormson and Christopher Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson, Iowa. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church, 401 South Lake Street in Lake Mills and will continue for one hour before the service on Wednesday. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills is assisting the family.
