Connie Rae Rasmusson
March 31, 1955 - March 09, 2017Connie R. Rasmusson, age 61, formerly of Lake Mills, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at her home in rural Forest City, Iowa.
A daughter of Raymond and Shirley (Utabjaa) Dakin, Connie was born on March 30, 1955, in the Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota. After graduating from Mason City High School in 1973, she attended North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City and Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota. For a time, she worked for Dakken Chiropractic in Lake Mills, the Lake Mills Care Center, and Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She was also a Consumer-Directed Attendant Care (CDAC) Provider.
Connie loved spending time with her family and friends, particularly with her grandparents when they were still living. With a heart of gold, she enjoyed helping people. Indeed, she seemed to light up when she had the opportunity to cheer others up. Moreover, she had a special place for animals, especially her dogs, and she enjoyed antiques as well.
Extremely proud of her son, Eric, Connie found immense satisfaction not only in his having turned his life around but also in his having accomplished so much else besides.
She is survived by her son, Eric Millard, and his special friend, Brooke Shoafstall, of Manly, Iowa; her loving parents, Shirley and Raymond Dakin of Mason City, Iowa; her significant other, Steve Twedt, of Forest City, Iowa; and her brother, Bob (Juli) Dakin, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; along with numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends. Connie was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, two aunts, and her Godson, Tyler Brighton.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Kent Otterman officiating. Family will greet friends and relatives between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again for one hour before the service. She wanted her remains cremated and asked that memorials be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 Birch Drive SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401.
