Douglas G. Hanson
July 17, 1948 - February 5, 2017Douglas Gene “Doug” Hanson, 68, of Trenton, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Doug, a son of Nels Einer and Louise (Stroebel) Hanson, was born on July 17, 1948, at Buffalo Center. He had a happy childhood despite his handicaps. He spent part of his early years going for months of treatment and schooling at the Crippled Children’s hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1952, he was admitted to the children’s hospital in Iowa City and treated for cerebral palsy. Confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran church in Buffalo Center, he graduated from Buffalo Center Community School and then from Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge with an Associate of Arts Degree in Applied Science in Broadcasting. In May of 1973, he worked at KICB in Fort Dodge. Eventually, he moved back to Buffalo Center to live in his family home until he moved to the Timely Mission Nursing home in 2012.
Doug would ride his ‘Rascal” all over town visiting friends. In 2015, he moved to the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, Missouri, to be closer to his family. Once he had settled in, however, he spent very little time in his room. Instead, he would ride his ‘Rascal’ to the other rooms to visit the other residents. Moreover, after realizing he had a love for singing karaoke after having moved to Missouri, he sang whenever he could.
Doug is survived by three nieces and one nephew, Patricia and Douglas Pickering, of Overland Park, Kansas, Sheri and John Stufflebean, of Maryville, Missouri, Dulcie and Eric Price, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Tim and Michelle Hanson, of Trenton, Missouri; his grandnephews, Hunter Stufflebean, Jasper Hanson, and Quinn Price; and his grandniece, Kinze Hanson; and his sister-in-law, Judy Hanson, of Trenton; as well as many friends and numerous cousins from Lakota and surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Dean Hanson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers are Douglas Pickering, John Stufflebean, Eric Price, Tim Hanson, Hunter Stufflebean, Jasper Hanson and Quinn Price. Doug’s family would like to thank the staff at Sunnyview Nursing Home, Wright Memorial Hospital, and St. Luke’s Hospital for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 11:00. Graveside services will follow at Olena Mound Cemetery. Memorials in his memory are suggested for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
