Blanche Delores Grunhovd
August 11, 1934 - February 22, 2017Blanche D. Grunhovd, age 82, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.
The youngest of thirteen children, Blanche Delores Grunhovd was born on August 11, 1934, in Forest City, Iowa, to John and Maggie (Anderson) McClain. In 1962, she married Kermit Ellsworth Grunhovd at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Together, they lived on the Grunhovd homestead where they farmed and raised their two children.
For several years, Blanche, also, worked at the Lake Mills Care Center as a Nurse's Aid. A member of Salem Lutheran Church, she, actively, participated in church circles. In addition, she belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.
Blanche is survived by her two children, Laurie (Roger) Downing, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Kyle (friend, Julie Schutz) Grunhovd, of Emmons, Minnesota; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kermit, in 2015; her siblings: Velva Bang, Beulah Brue, Velma Halverson, Wilma Harang, Margaret Johnson, Eva Kluver, Ethel Waage, and Andrew, Austin, George, Johnnie, and William McClain.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Joel Guttormson officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church.
