Geraldine Ruth Monson, 91, of Moravia, formerly of rural Forest City, died on Monday, December 12, 2016, at her residence.

Geraldine Ruth Monson, a daughter of Melvin and Clara (Nonnweiler) Johnson, was born in rural Miller, Iowa. She attended school in Hayfield, Iowa, and married Glen Monson on May 30, 1942, in Forest City, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. In 1942, she and Glen moved to their farm in Mt. Valley Township east of Forest City. It is still in the family name.

Geraldine took pride attending to her home and taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidering, and reading. A long-time member of the Winnebago Lutheran Church, she, actively, participated in the ladies’ circle. Most of all, however, Geraldine treasured her family and cherished the time she could spend with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Lynn (Carol) Monson, of Moravia, Monty Monson, of Waianae, Hawaii, and Renea Wubben, of Moravia, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Betty Monson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her grandchildren, Travis (Adam) Cerling, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Michelle Weise, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christopher (Abby) Monson, of Inner Grove Heights, Minnesota, Kari (Adam) Janecek, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kelly (Levi) Hoyt, of Lakeville, Minnesota, Rachel (Boe) Narveson, Michelle (Troy) Bratland and Brent (Daphne) Monson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Shaun (Angela) Wubben and Stephanie Varese, of Moravia, Iowa; her great-grandchildren: Joshua, Meghan, and Zachary Bratland; Logan and Sophia Hoyt; Charlotte and Drea Monson; Aiden, Brynn, and Landon Narveson; Mateo and Stephanie Varese; Achilles, Bryce, and Phoenix Weise; and Eva and Ivy Wubben; and her sister-in-law, June Monson, of Forest City; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Monson; her son, Barry Monson; and her great-granddaughter, Kadence Hoyt; her siblings, Dorothy Jefson, Iva Myklestad, Arlene Clark, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, 40050 210th Ave., Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before funeral services on Monday at the church. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Care Initiatives Hospice, 4 South Main St., Albia, Iowa 52531.
