Betty L. (McColloch) Nelson, 84, of Britt, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Betty Lou was born on March 8, 1932, to Harry “Dan” and Vera (Squibb) McColloch in Forest City Township. She attended school in Forest City. On March 29, 1949, she married Myrlen Nelson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To their union, five children were born: Cindy, Wendy, Richy, Kevin, and Jon. The family resided in Britt for most of Betty’s life.

No matter what the weather, Betty would go out walking every night. In addition, she enjoyed playing cards, reading, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and making pies for every family event she could. She will be remembered as a loving mother with a kind soul.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine siblings: Loty, Gweneth, Sandy, Mae, Chet, Let, Dale, Mary Ellen, and Donald Dean; and her sister-in-law, Myrt.

Funeral services for Betty Nelson will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the Evangelical Free Church of Britt, 810 2nd Avenue North West, Britt, with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
