Mary Jane Dakken
June 24, 1941 - December 22, 2016

Mary Jane (Peterson) Dakken, age 75, of Forest City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Mary, a daughter of Vernon and Bernice (Swenson) Peterson, was born on June 24, 1941, in Lake Mills, Iowa. Raised in Lake Mills with many relatives close by, yet, she, still, met the love of her life, David, there. She married David Ryan Dakken, her high school sweetheart, on June 21, 1959, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa. Three children, Rhonda, Todd, and Timothy, were born of their union

Mary and her family felt proud when John K Hanson called Mary "the face of Winnebago" as she was the receptionist for the general offices for many years.

A master gardener, Mary, also, became very involved with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. In addition, she, actively, participated in two bridge clubs with dear lifelong friends. She felt a deep since of pride in her mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family and friends will, dearly, miss her fun-loving personality and sense of humor.

Fortunate to spend many of her final days at home surrounded by her family, Mary is survived by her husband, David, of Forest City; her children, Rhonda Dakken Clark, and her husband, Timothy R. Clark, of Ventura, Iowa, and their children, Sarah Dakken Johnson, of Iowa City, MacKenzie Russell Clark, of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Todd David Dakken, and his wife, Kimberly J. (Hanson) Dakken, of Forest City, and their children, Katie (Matt) Hardy, of Perry, Iowa, Megan (Grant) Fjetland, of West Des Moines, Joe P. Dakken, and special friend, Dani Nygard, of Ames Iowa, and Timothy Jon Dakken, and his wife, Kim A. (Haugen) Dakken, of Forest City, and their son, Joshua Ryan Dakken, of Iowa City, Iowa; her great-grandchildren, Ella and Kellen Hardy and Will and Mila Fjetland; her two sisters, Verna Mae Helgeson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Joan Hall, and her husband, Ron, of Rochester, Minnesota; her brother-in-law, Dana Dakken; and her sister-in-law, Doris Peterson, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Bernice Peterson, of Lake Mills; her sister, Delores Porter, and her husband, Woody, and their daughter, Ann Marie; and her brother- in-law, Kurtis Helgeson, and his son, Paul.

Private family services will be held at the funeral home. Upon her wishes, her remains were cremated, and there will be no visitation.

The family would like to direct any memorials received to Hospice of North Iowa. We, especially, would like to thank the hospice support system and specifically Renée, Bon, and Mary as well as the wonderful staff for the care they provided at the Hancock County Health Systems in Britt.
