Agnes H. Christ
May 03, 1921 - December 25, 2016Agnes H. Christ, age 95, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Agnes Hulda was born on May 3, 1921, in Bancroft, Iowa, to Axel and Mary (Vokoun) Brattlund. She attended and then graduated from Bancroft High School in 1938. Next, she worked at the school as the superintendent’s secretary.
Agnes enjoyed dancing. Indeed, she met her future husband, Arvid Christ, at one of the dances at the Bancroft Ballroom, and she, subsequently, married him on October 25, 1942. To their union, three children were born: Neil, John, and Rosemary.
Having made their home in rural Scarville, the family farmed and raised livestock. In addition, Agnes loved working in her flower gardens, embroidering, painting with water-colors, and playing cards. In 2004, they moved to Lake Mills.
For twenty-five years, Agnes and Arvid wintered in Texas, and they had a lifelong passion for dancing together. Indeed, they, even, had the privilege of dancing to the Lawrence Welk Orchestra at the Surf Ballroom. Reassuringly, we know that they are dancing together once again this Christmas season.
Her survivors include her two sons, Neil (Sherry) Christ, of Lake Mills, and John Christ, of Denver, Colorado; a daughter, Rosemary (Darrell) Nelson, of Emmons, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Jason (Meredith), Nic (Linda), and Craig Christ; her great-grandchildren: Ethan, Alex, Ben, Anika, and Camden; and a brother-in-law, Junior Christ; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvid; her sister and her husband Loretta “Lefty” and Marvin Luedtke; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Christ; and a nephew, Terry Luedtke.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 105 E 3rd Street, Scarville, Iowa 50473, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota, Iowa. Her family suggests that memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
