December 04, 1930 - January 30, 2008Darlene May Hacker, 77, of Emmons, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Darlene May Hacker, a daughter of Alvin and Orphia (Bork) Furness, was born on December 4, 1930, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, she graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1948.
On December 5, 1948, Darlene married Andrew Hacker at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the family farm in rural Emmons, where Andy farmed and Darlene tended to their home and family. A very active member of Lime Creek Synod Lutheran Church, she participated the Ladies’ Aid Society and taught Sunday school for many years. She, also, enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, doing puzzles, and collecting pottery. In the late 1960s, Darlene and Andy moved their family (house and all!) from the farm into Emmons. Andy passed away in 1996.
On September 1, 2000, Darlene married Paul Halvorsen at the Lime Creek Synod Lutheran Church. The couple loved to spend their time traveling across the United States with Paul’s airborne reunion trips, and they enjoyed dancing. Their blended family also kept them busy, and they were blessed to have many members nearby.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Halvorsen, of Emmons, Minnesota; five children, Marty (DeLores) Hacker, of Twin Lakes, Minnesota, Jan (Mark) Prenger, of Lake City, Minnesota, Nadine Hacker, of Lake Mills, Iowa, David Hacker, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Tommy (Sheila) Hacker, of Alden, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Mandy (Derek) Cink; Allen, MeLissa, Tavis, Tony (Jessica), and Whitley Hacker; and Monica and Ingrid Prenger; four great-grandchildren: Preston Cink; Dillon and Patyn Hacker; and Adam Hermanson; two sisters, Marcella Severson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Ramona Furness, of Northfield, Minnesota; and a brother, Allen Furness, also of Northfield, Minnesota; in addition to her husband Paul’s family: Sheryl, Dawn, Suzanne, Lynn, Mary, Linda, Brenda, Paula, and Josh; along with many other step-relatives, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Orphia; and her husband, Andrew, in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Lake Mills Synod Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Rev. Karl Hermanson officiating. Burial will follow at the Lime Creek Synod Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, 2007, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street Lake Mills, and will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
