May 13, 1926 - July 16, 2016

Fern Luella Willand, age 90, of rural Lake Mills, died on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Fern (Morris) Willand, a daughter of William and Elva (Sims) Morris, was born on May 13, 1926. Baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist EUB Church in Meservey, Iowa, she attended school in Meservey, graduating from Merservey High School in 1944. Then, she enrolled in a Mason City beauty school and worked as a beauty operator in both Clear Lake and Meservey after school.

Fern married Clarence Willand on August 29, 1948. They, subsequently, had three daughters, Pamela, Penny, and Vicki. Fern and Clarence resided in rural Lake Mills for fifty-five years. There, she ran Fern’s Beauty Shop out of their home for many years. Fern enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, golfing, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She crocheted a baby blanket for each of her great-grandchildren and loved to sit on her front deck and watch the world go by.

Fern is survived by her daughters, Penny Nelson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Vicki Bartlett, and her husband, Dave, of Forest City, Iowa; her son-in-law, Mike Graham, of Maryville, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Graham Zimmerman (Dan), Jeremy Nelson (Christina), Rachel Nelson (Jeff), Amanda Graham Langston (Mike), Anthony Nelson (Miranda), Andrea Bartlett Severson (James), and Samantha Bartlett; fifteen great-grandchildren: Broden, Ryder, and Hartford Zimmerman; Broderick, Brooklynn, and Brayden Nelson; Madison, and Ava Benesch; Andrew, Tate, Parker, and Rose Langston; and Sophia Gulick, Camdon, and Calvin Nelson; her sister, Wilma Hulick; her brother-in-law, Leslie Pals; and her sister-in-law, Myrtle Tapps.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elva Morris; her husband, Clarence Willand; her daughter, Pamela Graham; and her siblings, Mervin and Marvin Morris and Norma Pals.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at Sion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, Iowa.
