Geraldine J. Wessels
February 13, 1932 - July 7, 2016

Geraldine Jeanette Wessels, a daughter of Harry and Hannah (Gerzema) Kettwick, was born on February 13, 1932, in Kossuth County. Baptized and confirmed at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, she attended first country school and then Buffalo Center High School, graduating in 1949.

On March 30, 1953, Geraldine married Jake Wessels at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. Together, they farmed west of Buffalo Center while Geraldine also worked at Green Giant and the Timely Mission Nursing Home. She resided on the farm until June 18, 2010, when she moved to the Timely Mission Nursing Home because of her declining health.

A member of the First Reformed Church, Geraldine served as Sunday School and Catechism teacher and Sunday School treasurer. In addition, she sang in the choir and belonged to the Ruth Circle which she still attended up to her death.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she, also, volunteered at many church, 4-H, and community activities. In addition, she loved attending the many sporting events, band performances, 4-H and FFA events, and church activities that her children and grandchildren took part in. Moreover, she never missed watching the Twins baseball games (no matter how their season was going)and doing word find puzzles as well as participating in the many activities at the nursing home. Indeed, she managed to get her picture in the Tribune many times with different things going on there.

Geraldine died on Thursday evening, July 7, 2016, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center at the age of 84.

She is survived by her three children, Bryan Wessels, of Buffalo Center, Doreen David, and her husband, Darrell, of Eddyville; and Bruce Wessels, of Thompson; seven grandchildren, Adrienne, Blaine, and Tanner Wessels and Derek, Lucas, Austin, and Zach David; and three great-grandchildren, Rilee, Caden, and Brooklyn; two sisters, Lenora Moorhead, and her husband, Ken, of Oronoco, Minnesota, and Elvera Logemann, of Swea City; and two sisters-in-law, Deloris Kettwick, of Buffalo Center, and Jean Swalve, of Swea City; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jake, on January 7, 1997; her parents; two brothers, Marvin and Harold; a sister-in-law, Gretchen Boehm, and her husband, Carl; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Logemann and Arnold Swalve.

A funeral service for Geraldine Wessels, 84, of Buffalo Center, will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011, at 10:30 AM, at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor William Peake officiating. Burial will be in Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday.
