Sheldon James Spores
December 27, 1944 - April 11, 2016Surrounded by his family, Sheldon James Spores, 71, of Forest City, died on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Sheldon James Spores, a son of James W. and Luain (Burroughs) Spores, was born on December 27, 1944, in Dorchester, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Waukon High School. On July 16, 1965, he married Kathryn Kenyon in Canton, Minnesota. To their union, three children were born. From 1974 to 1984, he worked for John Deere in the paint line before moving to Forest City where he was employed by Winnebago Industries from 1985 until he retired on July 1, 2011.
A former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa, Sheldon liked fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and traveling with his wife. Moreover, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was survived by his wife, Kathryn, of Forest City; his children, Curtis Spores, of Fargo, North Dakota, Cheryl Clum, and her husband, Kyle, of Webster City, Iowa, and Jennifer Backhaus, and her husband, Rick, of Manly, Iowa; his grandchildren, Lisa Engebretson, and special friend, Matt Thorn, of Fargo, North Dakota, Ashley Spores, of Fargo, North Dakota, Emily Nielsen, and her special friend, Daniel Lapcheske, of Ames, Iowa, Travis and Devlin Nielsen, of Lake Mills, Austin Backhaus, of Mason City, and Arabella, Ava, and Tara Backhaus, all of Manly; his great-grandchildren, Gage Liljequist, Logan Engebretson, and Anakin Sheldon Lapcheske; and his siblings, Charlotte Lunde, of Waterloo, Iowa, Gaylord Spores, of Decorah, Iowa, Shelby and Butch Bobinski, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Darrell Spores, of Waterloo, Iowa, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Luain Spores; his son-in-law, George Nielsen; his brother-in-law, William Lunde; his niece, Rachel Heber, and his great-granddaughter, Georgia Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. in Forest City with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M, Thursday, at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Sheldon Spores memorial fund in care of the family.
